Sustainable Wrapping Options! Other than the classic reuse of old gift bags (which is also great), I have loved adopting a Japanese method, furoshiki, these past years! Furoshiki (風呂敷) refers to a square piece of cloth used for wrapping, carrying or storing all sorts of items.
In 2019, I had a goal to hold off on purchasing wrapping paper. SO, I located these towels in 33" x 38" that were both a gift in themselves and they were the perfect size to wrap my gifts with! Even better, one year, I was inspired to paint them with fabric paint prior to wrapping with them-- giving that special personal touch (forgive the wrinkles on one of my towel above!). Real talk: after I got tired of painting motifs, I ended up saturating the fabric paint with water and did more of an abstract meets all over tie-dye look for the rest of them. While that link will provide you with many different size options, this is a smaller size for those wanting two useful sizes and is currently on sale!  The other options I used last year were printed silk varieties-- which can be found at your local Salvation Army, Goodwill, or many estate sales. There are also many other stores that carry these of course, even like the beautiful one shown above from Amazon. You can find these for cheap if you find polyester versions, but, of course, this is all about non-toxic-- so, natural fibers, like silk, are the way to go-- if that's your goal!
Newspapers, magazines, and books! I know some people might deem it a crime to tear up a book-- however, there are many great organizations, like Friends of the Library, where your purchase goes to a good cause and you're able to get your hands on coffee table books and children's books covered in beautiful imagery for a huge bargain (the one shown above was a whopping $2). This year, I got my hands on a few previously loved-on art books that I'll be sacrificing for the smaller items I'll be wrapping.
